Fire Extinguishers

Water – Type Extinguishers (Water type fire extinguishers are used to fight ‘Class A’ fires.)

“Class A” fires: Ordinary combustible solids (Wood, paper, plastics, rubber, coal, carbon based compounds).

Color: Red Solid

Available sizes: 9.0 L

Comments: Dangerous if used on flammable liquid, energized electrical equipment and cooking oil/fat fires.

Wet Chemical – Type Extinguishers (Wet chemical type fire extinguishers are used to fight ‘Class A’ and Class ‘F’ fires.)

Wet Chemical – Type Extinguishers (Wet chemical type fire extinguishers are used to fight ‘Class A’ and Class ‘F’ fires.)

“Class A” fires: Ordinary combustible solids (Wood, paper, plastics, rubber, coal, carbon based compounds).

“Class F” fires: Cooking oils and fats (usually found in kitchens).

Color: Red with Oatmeal band

Available sizes: 2.0L, 7.0L

Comments: Dangerous if used on energized electrical equipment.

Foam – Type Extinguishers (Foam type fire extinguishers are used to fight ‘Class A’ and ‘Class B’ fires.)

Color: Red with Blue band

Available sizes: 9.0L, 35L (portable wheeled type).

Comments: Dangerous if used on energized electrical equipment.

Dry Chemical Powder – Type Extinguishers (Dry chemical type extinguishers are used to fight ‘Class A, B, C & E’ fires.)

“Class C” fires: Flammable Gases (LPG, butane, hydrogen, acetylene, methane, natural gas).

“Class E” fires: Electrically energized fires (Switchboards, computers, power boards, leads).

“Class A” fires: Ordinary combustible solids (Wood, paper, plastics, rubber, coal, carbon based compounds).

“Class B” fires: Flammable and Combustible Liquids (Petrol, oil, paint, thinners, alcohol).

Color: Red with White band.

Available sizes: 0.75kg, 1.0kg, 1.5kg, 2.0kg, 2.5kg, 4.5kg, and 9.0kg

Comments: Look carefully at the extinguisher to determine if it is a BE or ABE unit, as the capability is different.

Carbon Dioxide – Type Extinguishers (Carbon dioxide type extinguishers are used to fight ‘Class E’ fires.)

Comments: Not suitable for outdoor use or smoldering deep seated “Class A” fires.
